Medium by Ena Twigg is the autobiographical account of one of Britain's best-known twentieth-century Spiritualist mediums. Twigg describes the development of her mediumistic abilities, her experiences of purported communication with deceased people and the personal and spiritual journey that accompanied her work as a medium.

Ena Twigg became particularly associated with mental mediumship, reporting impressions and communications which she believed originated from people who had died. Her work brought her considerable public attention and placed her among a generation of British mediums whose activities became of interest not only within Spiritualism but also to those investigating psychic phenomena and survival after death.

In Medium, Twigg recounts unusual experiences from her own life and describes how she came to understand them within a Spiritualist framework. The book provides an accessible first-person perspective on what it was like to experience and practise mediumship during a period when questions surrounding psychic abilities and communication with the dead attracted substantial popular and investigative interest.

The book also provides insight into the beliefs and practices of modern Spiritualism, particularly its conviction that human personality survives physical death and that communication between the living and deceased may sometimes be possible through mediumship.

Twigg's experiences and interpretations are presented as her own testimony and should not be regarded as scientific proof of communication with the dead. For readers interested in psychical research, however, such first-person accounts are valuable historical sources for understanding the experiences, beliefs and claimed phenomena associated with mediumship.
