In 1936, Archbishop Lang set up a Committee under Dean (later Bishop) Underhill to “investigate the subject of communications with discarnate spirits and the claims of Spiritualism in relation to the Christian Faith.” It reported in 1939, but the text of the Report was not made public for another 40 years, and has been out of print for some time. It is now reproduced in full, with essays on the formation of the Committee, the fate of the Report, and an assessment of its contents.
