Dr Robert Gilbert

Dr. Robert A. Gilbert was born, educated and lived, until retirement, in Bristol, where he inherited bibliomania from his father, read Philosophy & Psychology at the University of Bristol and entered the real world by becoming an antiquarian bookseller. He then married a fellow bookseller and began a parallel career as a writer in his various fields of interest (religious experience, esotericism and bibliography).

After some decades of producing books, children and (indirectly) grand-children, he and his wife retired to a Somerset village, where, amid the chaos of a multi-generational household, he finally completed his doctoral thesis (on aspects of Victorian publishing) and continues to write. By conviction he has retained his cradle commitment to the Anglican Church, but recognises and welcomes the true breadth of the Christian faith.
